The Challenge

Creating a unique digital experience

Sir Clive Woodward is the 2003 England Rugby World Cup winning coach and Team GB Director of Sport 2012. He is also a renowned speaker, and works across various businesses to support individual and group sportsmanship.

In addition, Clive is the Director of Sport for APEX 2100, which aims to become a world leading high altitude performance centre at 2100m in Tignes, France. He is also the Founder and Chairman of Hive Learning, a collaborative learning app that helps leading organisations and coaching professionals maximise the impact of their investments in training and development.

The challenge was to create a brand and digital experience which highlighted Clive's achievements and showcased his speaking and consulting services. To achieve this, the website needed to be sleek, modern and dynamic.

The Work

Bringing achievements to life

We started with the logo and wanted to make it both contemporary and personal. We decided on a calligraphy style influenced by Sir Clive Woodward’s autograph - the end result was modern, unique and instantly identifiable. A minimalist illustration of the Webb Ellis Cup was also created to act as a supporting graphic for the brand. The icon was then used across the website, animating as the user interacts with the site.

When choosing colours, we used ones that reflected two of Clive’s proudest moments - the gold a sample from the Webb Ellis Cup which he won with the England Rugby Team in 2003, and the navy inspired by the Union Flag and his achievements with Team GB at London 2012. Together, these made up the brand palette.

The website takes the user on a journey through Sir Clive’s achievements whilst showcasing his business and speaking services. To bring this experience to life, we animated a range of conventional still photographs and combined with footage from Sir Clive's rugby, Olympic and speaking events, to create a number of points of engagement.

The Impact

A true representation

The finished result is an experience that is unique, dynamic and truly representative of Sir Clive’s work. The new format allowed the user to be guided through an animated experience - scrolling down through content that highlighted Clive's speaking and consulting services as well as his ventures; Hive Learning and Apex:2100.
